Cesarean birth

A cesarean is a surgical procedure for birth that may be recommended for medical reasons and requires an individual assessment.

Requires individual assessment

01What it is

In a cesarean, the baby is born through an incision in the abdomen and uterus. It may be planned during pregnancy or decided during labor if conditions require it.

02Prior visit and planning

When appropriate, a visit explains the reason for the recommendation, planning, hospital coordination and guidance for recovery.

03Risks and alternatives

Like any surgery, a cesarean carries risks. Risks, alternatives and decisions are reviewed with you individually.
