01What it is
HPV is a common virus. Some types are associated with changes in cervical cells. The test helps define the right follow-up.
02Understanding a result
Having HPV is not the same as a cancer diagnosis. A positive result means follow-up is needed, which is explained during your visit according to your case.
03The cobas method
The clinic uses the cobas HPV test, a laboratory test that detects the genetic material of high-risk HPV types and identifies types 16 and 18 separately. The sample is taken from the cervix during the exam.
04How it relates to the Pap test
The Pap and HPV tests answer different questions and are not interchangeable. They may be ordered separately or together.
