Pap test

A Pap test examines cells from the cervix to detect changes that may need follow-up.

Requires individual assessment

01What it is

During the exam, a sample of cells is taken from the cervix and then analyzed in a laboratory.

02What it is not

A Pap test is not a test for every infection. An abnormal result does not automatically mean cancer: it shows whether further testing is needed, such as an HPV test or a colposcopy.

03Preparation and intervals

Preparation and screening frequency depend on your age, history and applicable recommendations. They are defined with you during the visit.
